Abstract: What do you get when you mix a magazine that's 127 years old, some Agile training, a small team of designers, programmers, producers, photo editors, and a scrum master, and tell them to build mobile-first? You get a transformation. National Geographic magazine's digital designs were deeply rooted in the magazine, as were many of the processes, but it was time for a change. Here's how the digital team at National Geographic went through the transition from print-first to mobile-first, the ups and downs, and the continued learning of how to work together in a collaborative, transparent, and iterative way.
Learning Outcomes:
- Steps to take when considering implementing an Agile framework
- How to evangelize Agile processes in your organization
- Ways to support staff while pulling them through the transition to Agile
- How to be consistent and strong when getting push back from existing staff
- How humor and humility go a long way when working with a group in transition
